![]() As you know, we have exciting plans for the Save our Swan campaign and the campaign is still moving ahead and gathering pace. But we have been side-swiped by a new application by Mendoza (on behalf of the company that owns The White Swan). They have put in a planning application to turn the first floor into flats and build an extra floor of flats plus reduce the much-loved beer garden to almost nothing. These latest plans would hollow out the pub, changing the buildings use from a community pub to a residential property, inflating the price of it and jeopardising the operation of any future pub music and arts venues. You can stop this by writing to the planning department and local councillors, take a look at our handy guide online. This is so much a local campaign - very much yours. It is evident how much the White Swan means to the community, historically and for the future. As you know, in the Victorian building we plan to have community arts and music spaces on the first floor, with the pub on the ground floor and new content creation spaces for youngsters downstairs. This would revive the traditional community hub that was such a heart of Charlton Village and that we all want to see again. You can Save our Swan by objecting today. |
Our campaign chair Suzanne Hunt says: “The White Swan has been the communal front room for the village since Victorian times. It’s a place to make friends across our community. Let us be clear: we will fight any change of use today, tomorrow and in the future.” We need to gear our campaign up fast to fight this fresh threat. We will be arranging meet-ups for volunteers and supporters and we are asking local residents to oppose the planning application by sending a simple email to the Royal Borough of Greenwich Planning Department by June 21 2026. |
