The White Swan:
Heart of Charlton Village

We are White Swan Music and Arts — a Charitable Community Benefit Society working to bring the White Swan into community ownership.

This isn’t just about saving a pub. It’s about restoring a landmark building at the heart of Charlton Village, breathing life back into the high street, and creating a space that serves the whole community.

Our plan is simple but powerful: the White Swan will reopen under a Charitable Community Benefit Society — owned and run for the people. Part of the building will be leased to a tenant to run as a proper pub, while other spaces — upstairs and in the basement — will be used for community groups, music, arts and cultural events.
It will be a place where neighbours meet, young people create, and Charlton gains a venue that brings communities together.
This is about more than pints and gigs (although it is also about pints and gigs). It’s about revitalising Charlton Village, supporting local businesses, and giving people a reason to gather, connect and be proud of where they live.

Together, we can make the White Swan a thriving hub for community and culture once more.
To make this happen, we’re raising the funds to buy the building outright on behalf of the community. Through a combination of community shares, donations, and grants, we can secure the Swan’s future in community hands, protected from developers and run for the benefit of Charlton.

Step one is done — we are now a Charitable Community Benefit Society. Step two is raising the money: launching our crowdfunder, exploring grant funding, and building the support to buy the Swan and bring it home to Charlton.

We've laid the foundations, next step we raise the roof.
