OBJECTION IMPACT ON LOCAL ECONOMY
The application threatens the village economy by creating another supermarket retail unit.
Mendoza is threatening the balance of Charlton’s local economy by proposing another supermarket.
It is not clear how an additional retail unit in an area where there already five vacant retail units fulfils the legal definition of maintaining an asset of community value.
In addition, the creation of a new Tesco would threaten the three existing supermarkets, the long established Co-op, the family owned international food market and the newly opened Vietnamese supermarket .
Planning should take into consideration Section 6 of the revised National Planning Policy Framework :
“Building a Strong, Competitive Economy”. Clause 84 states that planning policy and decisions should support the retention and development of community services, such as pubs."
